Our 3 months within Buncombe County Special Collections/ Carolina Record Shop Creative Residency was a wonderful opportunity to collect our thoughts, connect some dots,  and redirect our gaze toward the farms, forests, and legume lagoons of our future.

Many of the objects on display were created in response to the prompt “How Do We Mark The Flood?” for an event of the same name held on November 23, 2024 at Warren Wilson College; others were included in our recent exhibition “DEER FREAKS…and decoys.” and accompanying puppet fashion show “How Do We Disappear, Yet Still Be Seen?” at Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center.

Works on view were paired with library research resources (AKA “Special Collections Selections”) highlighting the histories of agriculture and arboriculture in our region. Public programming included a discussion on tree failure data with ISA Certified Master Arborist April Wilson, a crankie performance by artist Primrose Coke, a tree grafting demonstration with Gigi White, a reportback from Friends of the UNCA Woods, a fountainous flower installation with Hummingbird Waltz Farm and Dr. John Wilson Community Garden in celebration of their recent grant for a new well and drip irrigation system, and the launch of SEED CIRCUS - our summer session of Experimental Art Club in collaboration with Appalachian Seed Growers Collective.

Special Collections Selections!
